Event information

For their Summer concert London Concord Singers present music from Poland from the 16th to the 20th centuries. The programme includes a group of works from the 16th and 17th centuries by composers associated with the court of King Sigismund III. The choir will be performing works by a Polish composer from this period, Nikolai Zielenski along with two Italian composers who travelled to Sigismund's court, Anerio and Marenzio. As poly-choral music was a feature of music at the court, Zielenski's Magnificat is for three choirs and Marenzio's Magnificat is for two choirs.
From the 19th century the choir presents a short work by Moritz Brosig along with Libera Me attributed Frederic Chopin.

For the final works, the choir will be performing music by three of the major contemporary Polish composers, Gorecki, Twardowski and Penderecki. Gorecki's simple but intense motet Euentes Ibant et Flebant contrasting with the tortured chromaticsm of Penderecki's Agnus Dei and the vibrant Lauda Sion by Romuald Twardoski.
