*We regret that pianist Jessica Zhu is indisposed and no longer able to perform as soloist in Trinity Orchestra's concert on Saturday 18 May. For this reason there has been a change of programme for the concert. Replacing Brahms' Piano Concerto No. 2 will be two magnificent orchestral works by Classical masters: Mozart's Symphony No 40 in G minor and Beethoven's Coriolan Overture.
This May join Trinity Orchestra for a concert of breathtaking orchestral music in association with London's prestigious Royal College of Music and Blüthner Piano Centre.
A performance of Bartok's thrilling Concerto for Orchestra in its 70th anniversary year forms the centrepiece of the evening. One of the greatest and most popular orchestral works of the 20th century, the Hungarian composer's five-movement masterpiece provides a dazzling display of the versatility of the modern orchestra.
Audiences will also be treated to the specially-commissioned world premiere of Aeonia by Amy Bryce. A current student of the Royal College of Music Junior Department and winner of both the Joan Weller and Yorke Dance Project prizes for composition, Amy is one of the UK's most exiting up-and-coming young composers. Her piece is inspired by a quote by Plato, beginning: "Music is a moral law. It gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, a charm to sadness, and life to everything".
Join conductor Michael Murray for a pre-concert talk at 7pm to learn more about the evening's music.
