Belfast-born Andy is one of the great Irish singer-songwriters. 21 years ago he burst onto the scene with his first album 'Rave on Andy White', recorded in a field in Randalstown. He hasn't stopped writing, touring or recording since. Andy's latest release is his 9th album 'Garageband', recorded in Real World Studios in England and produced by legendary UK producer John Leckie (Pink Floyd, Radiohead, Roy Harper).
Andy's colourful career includes a stint alongside Tim Finn as one third of folk super trio ALT, appearances at WOMAD festivals all around the world, collaborations and tours with the great and good of the Irish music scene - Van Morrison, Sinead O'Connor, Donal Lunny - and winning the prestigious Hot Press Irish Songwriter of the Year award.
Best known for songs such as 'James Joyce's Grave' and 'Street Scenes From My Heart', since his first single 'Religious Persuasion', Andy has combined a pop sensibility with social commentary, once earning him the nickname 'Belfast's Bob Dylan'.
Andy has co-written with the likes of Peter Gabriel, Kieran Kane and Neil and Tim Finn. played festivals and shows all over the world, graced the cover of Folk Roots magazine, and the Irish HQ Music Hall of Fame.
The new album was recorded in Real World, Melbourne, Anchorage and Italy. Songs of love and impending disaster shot through with Andy's trademark wit, 'Garageband' is available in the UK through Floating World.
As a footnote, the lead track on Peter Gabriel's new album 'Big Blue Ball' is 'Whole Thing', a co-write with Andy and Tim Finn, and is also featured on the 'Long Way Down' BBC TV series soundtrack CD. 'Whole Thing' will be released on iTunes in March and on the album in May. You'll find Andy's version on his 'Teenage' album.
