Event information

Jon Allen is a well-known name to Peak District music lovers. He's played twice before at Alstonefield - and this time he returns to promote his new album, Blue Flame.

If you don't know Jon Allen's music, he's well worth checking out. Because of his gravelly voice, he's sometimes compared to Rod Stewart. His list of well-known fans include Jools Holland, Guy Chambers, Duffy, Jo Whiley and Mark Knopfler. He's toured with Emmylou Harris and Damien Rice, among others. When Jools heard his songs on the radio, he immediately asked for him to appear on BBC2's 'Later' programme.

As well as the comparisons with Rod Stewart, music reviewers have variously described Jon's music as being evocative of Bob Dylan, Cat Stevens, and Nick Drake. The track 'Joanna' (from Jon’s second album, Sweet Defeat), was his first to be Radio 2 playlisted. His third album, Deep River, was Radio 2's Album of the Week when it was released.

Jon has also had considerable commercial success. Viewers of TV's Homeland series will know his track ‘Joanna’. And his track 'Going Home' was chosen for Land Rover's Freelander TV and movie advertising, resulting in over 20,000 downloads.

Jon was born in 1977 in Winchester, where he played in a Beatles tribute band (“I started as John Lennon and moved to Paul McCartney”). He followed the Beatles connection to Liverpool's Institute for Performing Arts, co-founded by McCartney.

PLEASE NOTE that because of the venue size, this is a solo show.
