Having already cemented a storied reputation as a kickass live band throughout the US, these fresh-faced Texans bring with them the mystery of the Lone Star State coupled with the mastery of rhythm to create a sound completely timeless and familiar, yet absolutely raw and avant-garde.
They recently opened a hometown show for 13th Floor Elevators' Rocky Erikson and got the thumbs-up from from the mad old godfather of psyche-garage himself. Meanwhile their debut album 'The Strange Boys And Girls Club' (on In The Red records, home of Vivian Girls, Black Lips etc), is a a sixteen-track beast capable of summoning the wayward spirit of Brian Jones and sitting incely in your record collection alongside Nuggets, Black Lips and White Stripes.
So, last night we went down to the Mercury Lounge and, sure enough, the Strange Boys were the shit!!! Led by singer and guitarist Ryan Sambol -- a superstar in the making -- the quartet hails from Austin, Texas, and their sound hearkens back to Nuggets-esque 60s garage rock. ROLLING STONE
