Jackie Oates & Jim Causley: Shammick Acoustic concert

This is a rare team-up of two of the finest singers and musicians of the current young folk scene – and they both live in Devon! Jackie is a singer and fiddle player originally hailing from Staffordshire, and was a finalist in the BBC’s 2003 Young Folk Awards. Since then she has performed extensively, as a soloist and with a number of bands, having been a founder member of the Mercury nominated Winterset until a couple of years ago, and since worked with Van Eyken, the Reg Meuross Band and Show of Hands. With two albums under her belt, she was the winner of two categories in the 2009 Folk Awards, and has since recorded ‘Hyperboreans’ and embarked on a tour of major venues throughout the country. Native Devonian Jim Causley (and yes, he is related to Charles Causley) has, it seems, always been involved in local traditional music, but in studying at Newcastle University discovered a wider folk music scene. Since then he has recorded two solo albums, been nominated in the BBC’s Folk Awards, worked with harmony trio The Devil’s Interval, toured and recorded with Waterson:Carthy, and most recently been singing with the acclaimed Essex instrumental band Mawkin. Who knows what this night’s collaboration may produce? Can’t wait to find out!
