Event information
This talk will outline Brennan’s unique approach to making guided walks and guidebooks which he terms manoeuvres, and which are constructed out of quotations referenced from a wide range of sources. The juxtaposition of texts, when read against locations along the way aims to steer the walker into thought and into live group discussion. Brennan’s guidebooks are not dependent on the reader having to walk the route but can be enjoyed as an alternative form of travel writing. Brennan will set his walking practice within a broader context of his art practice which he has developed internationally since the 1980’s and which concerns broader ideas of ritual and ceremony in everyday life. After the talk Brennan will invite the audience to participate in a short manoeuvre which he will design specifically for the Trades.
In addition to the talk, on 12th December, at Walthamstow Trades Hall, Brennan and Dean Brannagan will be performing as the group Gruppen, promoting their new LP ‘White Starr’ which delivers a unique blend of spoken word and post-rock ambient soundscapes.
