JIM BOB (CARTER USM) solo show

A night of three guys and their accoustic guitars. No drummers.Hooray!!

Jim Bob formed Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine with guitarist Fruitbat. Together as Carter they would have 14 top 40 singles and a number one album, selling over a million records and touring the world. With Carter, Jim Bob would become known for his socially aware pop lyrics and in particular his use of puns.

Carter split in 1997 but reformed ten years later for two massive sell out shows: life affirming gigs that would lead to more sell out Carter shows in 2008. In November 2009 the band performed their first four albums in full at two shows in London. November 2011 they sold out Brixton Academy and Manchester Academy.

Outside of Carter Jim Bob has had a long and varied solo career. He has released seven albums – solo and with his discopoppunk band Jim’s Super Stereoworld. Jim’s eighth solo album ‘GOFFAM’ was released in April 2009. ‘Goffam’ was his second concept record, following on from the critically acclaimed ‘School’ – which told the story of a struggling comprehensive and its orchestra. ‘The story of Goffam’ is set in a city in the grip of crime and in desperate need of superheroes.

Jim’s autobiography ‘Goodnight Jim Bob – On The Road With Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine’ was published by Cherry Red Books in 2004 to yet more critical acclaim.

Jim has written songs for Ian Dury and for the 2006 Barbican production of Mark Ravenhill’s Dick Whittington & His Cat, directed by Edward Hall and starring Trigger from Only Fools and Horses. His last solo album ‘A Humpty Dumpty Thing’ came with a mini novel ‘Word Count’, which Jim is adapting as a screenplay for a Hollywood production company.

His first novel was published in 2010 called 'Storage Stories' and was a huge success for a debut.

Jim Bob's second novel DRIVING JARVIS HAM will be published by The Friday Project on 10th May 2012. The first edition of the book will be a lovely hardback and will be followed later by a paperback, an e-book and an audio book.

The hardback edition will come with a coded link to a four song (all new) Jim Bob download EP ‘Day Job’. The subject matter(s) of the EP's songs is unconnected to the book and at least one of them is called 'The Tesco Riots'.

DRIVING JARVIS HAM will be in all the shops and available on all the Internet. Jim plan to win a prize with it. They’re going to have to bring back The South Bank Show.

Here’s what Jim Bob's publisher says about the book.

DRIVING JARVIS HAM by Jim Bob

"A friend reflects on life with Jarvis Ham: tea-room assistant, diarist, lift-cadger, Princess Di fan, secret alcoholic, relentless seeker of fame, and all-round irritant. The novel is for anyone who has ever found themselves looking across at a childhood friend, and wondering why they still know them. Everyone here who has read Jim Bob's book has pissed themselves laughing. It is very funny, but very, very dark. We look forward to unleashing Jim on the festivals and bookshops of our nation this summer."

Basically, it’s the best book ever written. You’d be mad not to buy it.

Perhaps the pinnacle of Jim Bob’s career came in 2008, when he beat Amy Winehouse and Limahl from Kajagoogoo for the title of ‘Worst Haircut in the History of Music’.

Ben Marwood released his debut album proper 'Outside Theres A Curse' on Xtra Mile (Frank Turner, Chris T-T Future To The Left) to huge public/media support
