Dr Jenner's House, Museum and Garden

Dr Jenner’s House, Museum and Garden celebrates the life, work and legacy of Edward Jenner. More than just a country doctor, Jenner’s discoveries in this house changed the world. In 1796, Jenner carried out pioneering research into the use of cowpox to inoculate against smallpox, the greatest killer of the time. His work ultimately led to the eradication of smallpox by 1980 and enabled the development of modern vaccines. More than this, Jenner was one of the first true scientists. He proved that birds migrated, told the world about the nesting habits of cuckoos, experimented with unmanned balloons and went fossil hunting.
