Hailing from the pirate haven of Penzance, this fun, upbeat, pirate-folk band have hung up their cutlasses, exchanged their galleon for a land ship (named Hubert Cumberdale) and taken to a life of music.
Formed recently in 2019, JollyRoger are already taking the south-west by storm and gigging port, bow and starboard. Soon getting booked for the likes of Boardmasters Festival and performing on BBC RADIO CORNWALL and TCR RADIO.
Inspired and influenced by the vocals of 'The Pogues' crossed with 'Fisherman's Friends', the energy of the 'Dropkick Murphys' and the comedy of 'Tenacious D', it's hard to categorise JollyRoger! They take pride in their performances, demand audience immersion and are 'bound to get your toes tapping'.
JollyRoger comprises of brother & sister, Jae Dennis (guitar/ ukelele/ harmonica) & Samantha Hannah (mandolin/guitar) plus Kynan Sandles on the lesser-seen acoustic bass guitar. These guys are family and their connection on stage adds that little extra to their music and performances as they naturally use the audience and foot stomping as their percussion.
When all three sing together, they provide a 'whistle wetting romp full of three part harmonies'. With a mixture of upbeat folk music, some original pirate material and some good old fashioned sea shanties, there's something for everyone; they are bound to warm your cockles!
----If you don't like sea shanties, songs about drinking rum and shouting used as backing vocals then this probably isn't for you but if you do have a sense of fun then jump on in, the water's lovely... Listen with Monger - Reviewing EP 'Everyday Pirate'.
----Great live band, high energy, fun & professional - if you're looking for a band that will get the crowd jumping, here they are!! - West Kernow Sounds - Podcast with Craig.
