The Oxford Greek Dancing Group has reformed to offer people an opportunity to get together and learn traditional Greek dances. The class is open to all that are interested in getting to know this enormous part of Greece’s multifaceted and vivid culture. Dancing has always been an important element in Greek social life since ancient times. Dancing brings the community together on numerous occasions, such as religious celebrations, local feasts, weddings, and family gatherings. Similarly, this group intends to bring the people of Oxford together at the main hall of North Oxford Community Centre, every Sunday evening at 6-8 p.m.

During the class, dances from all over Greece will be taught, focusing on the unique characteristics of each region. As participants of all nationalities are welcome, there will be an effort to explain and translate the songs that accompany the dances, since singing is as vital and important as dancing in order to understand each region separately and in the wider context of Greece as a whole. In this particular group, the members can freely participate by sharing music and songs from their own regions, as well as their views and general opinions relevant to tradition and culture.

Our circle is open to everyone! We look forward to seeing you dance with us!
