Cult Figures was formed in Birmingham 1977 by two teenage Art and Design students Gary Jones and Jon Hodgson at Solihull Technical College. They put out two classic releases, a single ‘Zip Nolan’ (1979) and an EP ‘In Love’ (1980) on Rather Records, the label of early indie act Swell Maps, When a proposed third single was shelved by Rough Trade, Cult Figures, became disillusioned and broke up late in 1980. It took 36 years for Hodgson & Jones to reform Cult Figures in 2016. Since reforming the band has gone from strength to strength, gigging regularly and releasing three critically acclaimed albums.
