Laura Macfarlane, the frontwoman of Melbourne indie combo Ninetynine, will be in town, performing an exclusive solo show at the Betsey Trotwood. Originally from Glasgow, Laura grew up in Australia and has played in a number of bands, including a stint as the drummer in Sleater-Kinney. In 1996, she formed Ninetynine, who have since put out six albums of angular yet melodic indie rock/pop driven by guitars, Casio keyboards and vibraphones; the most recent album may be found at http://ninetynine99.bandcamp.com/
Hong Kong In The 60s are a London-based three piece, weaving together subtly understated melodic electronic pop; their influences include Broadcast, the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, film and library music and 1960s Asian pop. They recently released a split single with The Advisory Circle on Ghost Box.
Hissing At Swans are Clare and Sarah; they make lo-fi pop songs about everyday life and the tedium of office work, using ukuleles, Casio keyboards and handcrafted stop-motion animations.
