Sheffield's own Emeritus Professor of Sociology from the then Sheffield Polytechnic - the singing sociologist whom Tony Benn believes to be 'the socialist folk singer of his generation" - Roy Bailey celebrates his birthday a day early, with a special birthday bash for us at The Greystones. Roy has travelled the world singing the stories of people everywhere and creating an atmosphere like no other at his gigs, whether in an intimate folk club or The Royal Albert Hall, where he celebrated his 30 years of singing, ten years ago. The English Pete Seeger himself, Roy will make you laugh and cry in equal measure with his moving songs and hilarious anecdotes. Above all else, he creates a sense of and a belief in the community that we miss and so need in these difficult times.
With MC James Fagan, who grew up with Roy's songs and singing in his hometown of Sydney, Australia, where Roy would often stay on his tours of the antipodes. James is a much loved singer and musician himself, now living in Sheffield. This will be a night to remember.
