An Evening with Wendy Cope
The Party isn’t over yet
In the ambience of a cosy fireside chat, Wendy Cope, Radio 4 listeners’ top choice for Poet Laureate, reads some of her poems and celebrates life, writing, childhood, and love. Then she answers questions and signs copies of her recent volumes – Family Values and Two Cures for Love – which will be available on the evening. She was awarded the OBE in the 2010 Birthday Honours, and is a Fellow of the Royal society of Literature.
Wendy has long been an extraordinarily popular speaker, and audiences find her readings inspirational, entertaining and illuminating. Previous collections, Making Cocoa for Kingsley Amis and If I Don’t Know were nominated for and one several literary prizes, and she was one of the 2007 Booker Prize judges.
Dr Rowan Williams is a well known fan of her work - "Wendy Cope is without doubt the wittiest of contemporary English poets, and says a lot of extremely serious things"
In 2008 her poem After The Lunch was used as the lyric of the song On Waterloo Bridge by musician Jools Holland.
