Event information

A folk showcase with Anna Macdonald and Chris Ricketts plus local Folk talent. Anna is a singer and songwriter of folk songs that shows her Celtic roots. A multi-instrumentalist she is able to play the piano, guitar and clarsach which she beautifully intertwines with both Scottish, English and Gaelic songs. “Anna MacDonald sings Gaelic songs from her new folk album in a voice so lovely it could silence the birds of Barra” (The Glasgow Herald). “There were afternoon sessions in the pub where everyone joined in for a jam, and where I mainly ate a great deal of gourmet chips while being blown away by Anna MacDonald’s singing.” (Sophie Cooke, The Guardian). Chris is a young Shanty and Folk singer and accomplished guitarist with and international following. Being born and bred in Portsmouth, his music has strong links with the city’s naval history and he sings versions of traditional folk songs and sea shanties (some well known, some less so) in his own unique style presenting the songs in a fresh new way. “Youth is not wasted on the young when it comes to Chris Ricketts. He has a heart the size of a concert hall, a generous spirit to match and a drive and determination that wills him to win. Which he will.” (John Tams).
