HOUSE was born in May 1976 from the ashes of two local Guildford bands - ASYLUM and BACKHURST. Tony Backhurst (singer-songwriter -guitarist) joined forces with Sev Lewkowicz (keyboards - vocals). They recruited Tim Wheatley (ex Gracious!) on bass, and initially performed as a three piece.
The band broke up in the early 80s, and Sev went on to play with Mungo Jerry, Any Trouble and Duffo. More recently Sev has toured the UK with Doctor Hook singer Dennis Locorriere.
The founder members of the band have always had an ambition to play together again. This time they have been joined by drummer Matt Wheatley, who has done a 15 year shift with blues rockers Cryin' Out Loud with Tim at his side on bass.
For the last few months they have been quietly rehearsing and re arranging all the old favourites. The set will include tracks from their album "Water Under the Bridge" as well as many previously unrecorded songs. They are sure that this ‘new' House for the ‘new millennium' will meet with approval from their old fans, and also gain them a generation of new ones.

"The songs are soft focus affairs concerning love, good times, missed opportunity and more than a deal of reflection. ‘Photograph' the honourable exception is an acute tale of life lost in Ulster's troubles, ‘Amsterdam Rain' a 70s rite of passage which anyone with long hair, a back pack and a memory can relate to.
‘Water Under the Bridge' proves their music's gone the distance".
- Folk Roots
"The bulk of the composing and lead vocals are handled by Tony Backhurst. He is sometimes reminiscent of Dave Cousins of The Strawbs, although the standard of his writing seems more even than The Strawbs ever achieved".
