Winchell Riots + Tim Gill & guests
Presented by: Coo Promotions and Coo Coo Club0 | OXFORD: Holywell Music Room |
---|---|
P | Saturday 16th July, 2011 |
N | 7:45pm |
Early bird ticket.
Please arrive a little earlier, to be seated by 7.45pm as we will begin promptly and we ask for your co-operation with this, as it is disturbing for the first artist if people come in and take their seats during the performance.
There will be no interval, we will have short breaks in between each artist. (there are washrooms in the venue and you can step outside for a few minutes during changeover if you wish to.)
The event will be finished no later than 10pm.
If you've been to a Coo show at the Holywell before, you'll know to expect a magical evening in one of the best settings in Oxford. Winchell Riots never fail to delight, the gorgeous voice of Phil McMinn soars in this space.
Named after a chapter from Philip Roth’s The Plot Against America and singing songs based around ocean explorers and space travel, the band admit their hats are firmly tipped towards the expansive post-rock of Sigur Ros and Explosions In The Sky but this remains pop music through and through.
This June they release the 'Figure 8s EP' through Andrew The Great Records, recorded & mixed in Bath with Dan Austin (Doves / Cherry Ghost / Massive Attack).

Tim Gill
It was while growing up in Stroud, Gloucestershire, that Tim first began his classical training in both viola and violin. He progressed quickly, performing Bach’s Double Violin Concerto by age 12 and later going on to play with the Cheltenham Symphony Orchestra as a teenager.
Tim Gill is a great talent. Classically trained he has also performed with bands such as The Alchemists and Message to Bears, but in pursuing a solo career it is Tim’s live performances that have helped define him as such a uniquely creative musician.
Characterised by a focus on improvisation, Tim is able to draw together ideas from all of these sources into a cohesive live experience. Whether layering pizzicato chords with the assistance of a loop pedal, building them into tremendous crescendos, or using subtleties of applied pressure on the bow to achieve a wealth of lush soundscapes, Tim has moved entire rooms to silence with his utterly captivating and highly emotive shows.
