Music Director : Mark Fitz-Gerald
Soloists : Cristina Di Bernardo, Silvia Vicario (Harps)
Tchaikovsky : Eugene Onegin Polonaise
Schubert : Rosamunde Overture
Elias Parish-Alvars : Concertino in D minor for Two Harps Op. 91
Schubert : Symphony No. 8 in B minor (Unfinished)
Dvorak : Symphonic Variations Op. 78
In the orchestra's 90th birthday year, it was essential to include Schubert's lovely Rosamunde Overture in the first concert of 2012 as it was the first work ever played by the orchestra in public (on 13th December 1922). We are also lucky to have two talented Italian soloists to perform the beautiful double harp concerto by the Teignmouth born composer, Parish-Alvars. The concerto has remained unplayed in this country since its composition in 1848. More well known favourites, the Polonaise from Tchaikovsky's opera Eugene Onegin, Schubert's Unfinished Symphony and Dvorak's Symphonic Variations complete an inspiring opening to 2012.
