One Sixth Of Tommy
http://onesixthoftommy.com/
Three girls and three guitars falls way short of describing One Sixth of Tommy’s effortlessly beautiful songs. With the guidance of Chris Hughes and Mark Frith they have come up with a phenomenally fresh debut album packed with impeccable writing and endless heart-stringing melodies. In the finest tradition of our greatest bands, all three girls take lead vocals and write, citing amongst their many influences Tegan and Sara, The Cranberries, Newton Faulkner, Gregory & the Hawk and Bon Iver.
Athletes in Paris
http://www.myspace.com/athletesinparis
Athletes In Paris come from the Northeast and sing in an accent too broad for anyone outside a 50 mile radius of Newcastle to fully comprehend more than little soundbites. To the accidental tourist they are an indie band speaking in tongues. They have two drummers playing world beats and latin grooves. Their incredibly catchy and equally idiosyncratic pop songs are punctuated with chanted gang-vocals and frantic muted guitar picking. It's one big multicultural northern melting pot and it may give you that long awaited EUREKA! moment that makes you realise the missing link between Earth, Wind and Fire, Friendly Fires, Jack Penate and Prefab Sprout.
Air Castles
http://www.aircastlesmusic.com/
Welding guitars, synths, bass and drums with Air Castles’ brainchild Max Mansson’s unforgettable vocals, the band were chosen by a panel of Radio 1 DJ’s, including Zane Lowe, to play on the BBC introducing stage at Glastonbury this year. They’ll be playing for Spindle just days before their new single ‘Gold’ is released, with the debut album to follow early next year.
