The Elysian Singers, under director Sam Laughton, celebrate music inspired by Vienna through the centuries. The earliest pieces are by Monteverdi. From the 18th century there is Caldara's extraordinary 16-part 'Crucifixus'. We move on to the early nineteenth century world of Franz Schubert, whose 'Gesang der Geister' is one of the masterpieces of the male choir repertoire, before turning to Brahms's superb 'Warum ist das Licht Gegeben'. From the early 20th century come highly romantic works by Mahler, Berg and Webern, recently arranged for multipart choir by Clytus Gottwald. Finally Schoenberg's 'Friede auf Erde' hovers on the cusp of the modern era.
