Country: Iceland 2011
Director: Vincent Morriset
Running time: 75 minutes
Date of release: November 7, 2011
Only the second performance in the UK (the premiere at the BFI sold out), GalleryFilm presents the new film from Icelandic musical phenomenon Sigur Rós.
‘Shot in black and white and running a haunting, emotion-drenched 75 minutes, [Inni is] as pure an experience of the cinema as I’ve had.’ Variety
Filmed over two nights at Alexandra Palace by Arcade Fire collaborator Vincent Morisset, Inni is a feature-length record of the band’s uniquely powerful live experience. In stark contrast to the 2007 film Heima which painted an expansive portrait of the band within the breathtaking scenery and social and cultural context of their homeland, Inni is deliberately stripped down and literally close, offering an intimate, emotionally charged and cinematic portrait of these four extraordinary musicians.
The film's atmosphere is enhanced by Morisset's re-filming of the original digital footage on 16mm, which was then re-filmed again, sometimes through prisms and other found objects, allowing Inni to look and feel like something recovered from the past. Interspersed with this is archival footage drawn from the band's previous decade, this juxtaposition gives viewers the full scope of Sigur Rós' origins, evolution, originality and influence.
Please be advised – strobe lighting and flashing images are used during Sigur Rós’ live performance footage.
Pay bar open from 7.00pm
