Award-winning singer Hilda Bronstein returns to the Green Note to perform her eclectic mix of music originating in Eastern Europe, from foot-tapping instrumental klezmer, to soulful song and throbbing Yiddish swing from the smoky era of New York jazz and vaudeville. This time she will be accompanied by the Chutzpah! trio each of whom is a virtuoso performer in his own right.
Yair Schleider, on piano, accordion, and guitar is a dynamic member of the London klezmer scene, who started his career as an Israeli Indie-Rock musician before joining the UK band Funk Federation, of which he is still a member.
Dave Shulman on clarinet is well-known to audiences at the Green Note for his playing of traditional gypsy, jazz and klezmer with his own Shulman Band and it is Dave who provides the true East European flavour to the Chutzpah! mix.
Yair and Dave are joined by Paul Moylan on double bass. Paul has played his double bass across the world, including tours to Japan, Malaysia with the Michael Garrick Jazz Orchestra, Italy and Germany and Belgium. Paul has performed on several recordings, played for for TV including Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased) and was both seen and heard on East-Enders. He has performed with many of London’s leading Klezmer Bands including Gregori Schechter, and appeared on Hilda’s latest CD ‘Yiddish Songs with Chutzpah!’
Hilda Bronstein is one of the Europe’s leading exponents of Yiddish song. In a recent review, Adam Greenberg of CD review wrote that ‘Bronstein herself is the star of the show, with a deep, throaty, almost Marlene Dietrich-like... intonation’.
