Event information

Conductor: Mark Fitz-Gerald

Mozart: Serenade No. 6 in D, K.239 'Serenata Notturna'
Donizetti: Sinfonia in G minor for Winds
Dvořák: Czech Suite, Op. 39
Haydn: Symphony No. 104 in D 'London'

Our second concert of the season opens with Mozart's Serenata Notturna (K.239) which is scored for strings and timpani. This is followed by Donizetti's Sinfonia in G minor for flute, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets, 2 bassoons and 2 horns. The Donizetti Sinfonia replaces the Mozart C minor Serenade which was originally planned for this concert.

Dvořák's Czech Suite comprises 5 movements, embodying three Czech dances; Praeludium (Pastorale) Polka, Sousedská (Minuetto) Romance and Finale (a Furiant). This composition dates from 1879, the year after the popular Slavonic Dances.

Haydn was indisputably a master of the symphonic form. Symphony No. 104 is known as the "London" symphony, but it was, in fact, the last of a group of 12 symphonies composed for London in 1795, and his very last symphony, too.

Please note that the facility for purchasing tickets online will close at 6.00 pm on Friday 17 February
