Mauricio Velasierra is a pioneering player of the Kena Flute, mixing traditional Andean melodies and contemporary harmonies
His Main instrument “The Kena”, is normally played in one key, but Mauricio has created his own system to play in all keys and quarter tones; allowing for the melancholic sounds of an ancient culture to combine with Asian sounds, and a rich mixture of Afro-Andean grooves.
His band combines musicians from all over the world, coming from very different musical styles:
Henrik Jensen (Double Bass), Camilo Menjura (Guitar), Jenny Adejayan (Cello), Gregorio Merchan (Percussion & Drums)
Mauricio Velasierra (Kena Flutes & Moceños), Special Guest: Stephanie O'Brien (Paraguayan Harp, Voice)
