Chew Lips are confirmed to headline the Chorlton Weekender on Friday 25th May.
Chew Lips released a second sold out single, "Salt Air" in July 2009 - NME called it "an addictive slice of heart-wrenching disco-pop" - before the band begun work in summer '09 on their full-length debut with Bat For Lashes collaborator David Kosten.
The fruits of their labour came with the self-released album Unicorn in January 2010, such a giant leap forward for their sound that they were confident enough to leave off both of the previous singles. It was easy to see why - in the likes of "Play Together", "Karen" and "Slick", they'd outdone themselves. The press agreed: the BBC called it "startling", NME "mesmeric", whilst a 4/5 review in The Guardian said it "drags you straight in."
Another stretch of intense touring followed and by the time the European festival season came round and after a scene-stealing appearance at SXSW in Texas (Elle US described them as the best new act at the festival), Chew Lips were on top of their game. Topping off their tour they headlined the packed BBC Introducing Stage at Glastonbury Festival.
CHEW LIPS will be joined on the night by MULL HISTORICAL SOCIETY. Colin MacIntyre is a multi-instrumentalist, programmer, songwriter and producer, who releases under the pseudonym 'Mull Historical Society'.
MacIntyre released his 4th MHS album in Jan 2012. There have been three other MHS albums to date, achieving two top twenty chart albums and four top 40 chart singles. His debut, 'Loss' went Gold and has been widely hailed as one of the best British albums of that year.
He has collaborated with Irvine Welsh and Tony Benn, and toured with The Strokes, Elbow and REM. His new Mull Historical Society album, his 6th in total, entitled 'City Awakenings', was released in January 2012 on Xtra Mile Recordings on the 10th anniversary of 'Loss'. Produced by the Grammy-winning Dom Morley (Amy Winehouse, Mark Ronson, Grinderman), it is his tribute to Glasgow, London and New York - the three cities which have most influenced the musician and islander abroad. MacIntyre co-produced the closing track 'Thameslink (London's Burning)', which he first performed on acoustic guitar at his father's funeral (his father's death inspired 'Loss'). First single is radio hit 'The Lights', and the next release will be the exclusive 'Must You Get Low' vinyl EP, featuring 'It Seems' an unreleased MHS track from the 'Loss' sessions'
