//CARMEN ELEKTRA 4//

TIMBERBRIT: a dark electronic Britney Spears fantasy
music by Jacob Cooper/libretto by Yuka Igarashi

"tragic electronically fuelled slo-mo musical meltdown"

//Carmen Elektra 4// features the European premiere of Jacob Cooper's Timberbrit: a 55-minute electronic opera which re-imagines a fictionalised Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake as doomed lovers, pulled into the surreal tragedy of Britney's celebrated victimhood, the horrifying consequences of her mythic status as the 'real' fallen diva, all unfolding onstage at an ominous 'final concert'.

New York composer Jacob Cooper used the experimental process of 'time-stretching' to transform Britney/Justin songs into music of fascinating intensity, at once frighteningly strange and eerily familiar. Wrapped in heavy instrumental and electronic textures which as much recall ambient electronica and the dream-like soundtracks of David Lynch and Angelo Badalamenti as they do contemporary avant-garde music, Timberbrit blurs the boundaries between live and recorded music, reality and performance.

CARMEN ELEKTRA: OPERA UNDERGROUND

Carmen Elektra: Opera Underground stage short, experimental operas in clubs and alternative venues, alongside DJ sets and other surprises. Drawing on the sensory immersiveness of club events and the narrative force of modern opera, Carmen Elektra events bridge the gap between cutting-edge theatre, new music and club culture.
