The London-based Australian virtuoso pianist Piers Lane is much in demand as a soloist. In the 2011/12 season, he will have played the monumental Piano Concerto by Busoni at Carnegie Hall, undertaken début performances with the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra and with the La Verdi Orchestra in Milan, and premièred a new piano concerto with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. Closer to home, he will have performed with the London Philharmonic, the Royal Philharmonic and the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestras.
In the UK, he is perhaps best known as a chamber musician, accompanist and soloist, with many distinguished performances at the Wigmore Hall and elsewhere and for presenting the Radio 3 series The Piano.
Nicholas Daniel, the Artistic Director of the Leicester International Music Festival, considers him to be one of the world’s finest pianists and we are delighted to welcome Piers to Leicester for this recital.
The New Walk Museum Shop and Café will be open prior to the performance.
