The second Black Isle Fiddle Weekend takes place in Cromarty this July and we are delighted to bring some of the finest musicians and fiddle players to give a very special concert in the recently-restored East Church.
This double bill of multi-instrumental duo 'Mairearad and Anna' and new fiddle quartet 'RANT' will be entirely acoustic. The ticket includes a half-time refreshment at the Old Brewery.
Mairearad and Anna
Anna Massie is no stranger to Black Isle audiences, hailing from Fortrose. She is one of the most in-demand musicians on the folk scene and is equally skilled on the fiddle, guitar, banjo and mandolin. Her long-standing musical partnership with accordionist/piper Mairearad Green has gained them a wide-spread reputation as a captivating duo. Providing a highly energetic performance with a warm and friendly stage appearance, this duo will engage any audience. Individually, they can be seen performing with a number of well-known artists such as The Poozies, Blazin' Fliddles, Karen Matheson, Box Club, Eddi Reader, and together in Scotland's one and only Celtic Big Band, The Unusual Suspects.
'RANT'
(Scots - 1. noun - an energetic dance or its tune; 2.verb - to make merry, to frolic)
RANT is the meeting of 4 of Scotland's finest fiddle players, two from the Shetland Islands and two from the Highlands. Bethany Reid, Jenna Reid, Sarah-Jane Summers and Lauren MacColl join forces to create a sound rich and vibrant, evocative of the exciting scene they create music in. Using just their fiddles, they weave a tapestry of melodies, textures, layers
and sounds. Known for their work as soloists and with various bands, this is a celebration of the instrument they all have a passion for. 4 fiddles: one beautiful sound.
This is RANT's very first concert as a band!
Concert begins at 8pm
