Event information

Sweetgrass (2009) is an award-winning, beautifully shot examination of herding and the link between cowboys and sheep in the Absaroka-Beartooth mountains. It will be accompanied by a rare screening of Chris Marker and Mario Ruspoli's anthropological short Vive La Baleine / Three Cheers for the Whale (1972), which experimentally chronicles mankind's relationship with whales through art and the fishing industry. Sociologist Richie Nimmo (Manchester) will talk about human policing of cattle movement, Chris Carbone (Institute of Zoology) will talk about the spaces of human-wildlife interaction, and Giovanni Aloi (QMUL), author of Art & Animals, will talk about interactive nature in seminal films. This is a PASSENGERFILMS screening on animal-human geographies introduced by geographer Paul Merchant. £5.
