Winter Holiday: Otley Community Players

“You know what it’s like. Dark at tea-time and sleeping indoors: nothing ever happens in the winter holidays.” Arthur Ransome’s classic children’s story Winter Holiday, part of the Swallows & Amazons series of books, was published in 1933. Set in a part-idealised version of the Lake District, the plot concerns two new characters trying to make friends with the tight-knit Walker and Blackett children as they plan an expedition to the very north of the lake in the depths of winter. Duncan and Nick Hall of The Hall Brothers, with the kind permission of the Arthur Ransome Literary Estate, have adapted the book for the stage and Otley Community Players will be the first ever theatre company to tackle this very popular text. The show will include live music, original, traditional and contemporary songs all written or curated by The Hall Brothers & Friends.
