> HOLY MOUNTAIN
An intensely loud and unorthodox high-energy trio from Glasgow combining the riffs of Black Sabbath, the frenzied energy of Lightning Bolt and the attitude of the MC5. The band's debut mini album 'Earth Measure' was recorded in 17 hours at Glasgow's Diving Bell studio with Marcus Mackay (Frightened Rabbit/Reindeer Section)

Rock nerds with sublime skills ploughing through all the moves their heroes have made, songs bleeding into one another, through the electric chair garage punk of the Stooges, the shrieking, beyond-parody riffage of AC/DC and the relentless tank-tread churn of metal's Year Zero, Black Sabbath.

Hustled back onstage for an encore by compere Vic Galloway, McGlone asked the most important question of all. "Does anybody like a band called Black Sabbath?" he giggled. "Me too." Yeah, we guessed. But the version of War Pigs that followed, its strident guitars overshadowed by superhuman drumming from Pete Flett, suggested they're more capable kindred spirits than eager fans.

They head South rarely, and this time to record a session for Marc Riley's 6Music show and then to realise on London crowds, with high volume, their debut mini album 'Earth Measures' at our NHS Club.

Volume, riffs, hair and vests, like all the best heavy bands.

> GUM TAKES TOOTH
Formed from the ashes of art-noise band Infants, GTT are pounding and percussive groove machine.
Opposing drummers ignite a dense, focused rhythm engine to propel thunderous evolving acid synth and refracted vocal manipulations. Motorik astrally projected drive-trains thrust through haunted subterranean soundscapes into epic swathes of crushing synth riffing heavy enough to compete with any de-tuned guitar monster.

The group decisively bring together their influences of out-there noise, metal, primeval rhythms, spacious psyche, pan-ethnic oddities, primal punk, acid house and vintage electronics on their debut album 'Silent Cenotaph'.

'Tannkjott' from their essential album 'Silent Cenotaph' featured strongly on our New Heavy Sounds Vol 2 album earlier this year.

> NEGATIVE PEGASUS
Born from a mutual love of the consciousness expanding New York
repetition-rock of Oneida, amongst others, the Neg Peg sound consists of sheets of guitar feedback floating above primal, pounding drums. The repetitive rhythms are
overlaid with ghostly vocals, and the whole mix is drenched in a
thick, choking haze of effects.
LOOMING is Neg Peg's first album release. Mixing droning, grinding
loops with a wild, treble guitar howl, LOOMING recalls 70s classic
rock and a contemporary NY sound, weaving between primordial
bone-shakers, stretched-out growls and sort of ethereal retro pop
For fans of Oneida, Ex Models and Can
High octane riffage somewhere between Oneida, LIARS and Black
Sabbath.
