Event information

SOME of the county's best musicians are joining together to celebrate
the 150th anniversary of the Oxford Times - in the suitably historic
surroundings of Oxford Castle.

The night, called Live & Unlocked, is headlined by local heroes Little Fish - and this month's Nightshift cover stars, Secret Rivals.

The show will take place in the landmark's 11th Century crypt
and 18th Century prison D-wing, with music also performed in some
surprising corners of the iconic building - which has never before
hosted a concert of this type.

Little Fish and Secret Rivals will be joined by blues siren Tamara Parsons-Baker, reggae stalwarts Dubwiser, folk-rockers Swindlestock, math-rock band Nairobi and dance-pop darlings Duchess.

Also joining the party will be DJs from Smilex, The Original Rabbit Foot Spasm Band and club night YOOF!

The one-off event will also launch Oxford Castle quarter's "Keeping it Local" festival.

As well as enjoying the ambience of the castle's candle-lit crypt and former jail, concert-goers will be able to enjoy a drink from the bar, which will be set up in a converted prison cell.

Elsewhere, revellers will be invited to relax on antique benches and take in a screening of Oxford film producer John Spira's documentary on the local music scene "Anyone Can Play Guitar."

Little Fish's set will be their first in the city for three years, and will
see the new four-piece line-up showcasing their new sound and songs from their forthcoming album.

Frontwoman Juju says: "It's going to be a brilliant night and we can't wait to play our hometown in this unique setting."

"This promises to be an amazing experience for gig goers," says the Oxford Times' Music Editor Tim Hughes, who is organising the event.

"Oxford Castle is an extraordinary building at the very heart of our city, yet so few local people have really discovered it. This night will give music-lovers, history buffs, and the insatiably curious a chance to explore the castle - and listen to some of our very best bands. This will be a unique night.

"Ticket numbers are limited so get your now before they're all gone!"

Live & Unlocked: celebrating 150 years of The Oxford Times, takes place at Oxford Castle Unlocked on Friday September 14.

Tickets are £8 in advance - more on the door.
