Lotte Mullan released her debut album 'Plain Jane' in January 2012 which she serviced to the press herself receiving a significant level of critical acclaim.

It's been a busy year for Mullan; LOVEFILM used her version of 'It must be love' in their ad campaign and a blog she was writing about her adventures as a musician and undercover work experience girl has now been snapped up for a book and film deal by Elton John's Rocket Pictures. The film, which is to be set in America, is currently in development to go into production in 2013 .

Mullan is currently working on her second album which sees a return to her English Folk roots; Mullan grew up in rural Suffolk but moved to London in her late teens to 'live the dream' and after eight years found herself torn between two different communities and ways of life; she found herself exploring a return to her roots whilst listening to the likes of Richard Thompson and June Tabor.

Meanwhile Mullan has turned down a major recording contract offered to her by Warner Brothers in favour of going it alone with her own Label 'Raindog Records' (funded by her deal with LOVEFILM and Rocket Pictures) Mullan says of her decision to remain independent "I work with a lovely team of people whose names I all know. I really wouldn't want this to change.. Some people think I'm mad but I've decided to stay independent for now and see how far I get being captain of my own ship".

This is a thoroughly subversive DIY story, with an engaging and talented young musician very much at the centre of its success. The Work Experience Girl may not have gotten the job, but Lotte Mullan has emerged with a label, film and publishing deal...and ample source-material for her next chapter.
