---------------

The homeless, the genre-less, the academically neglected, the commercially naive: this is Outsider Music. It can be simple or complex, gentle or brash, melodic or atonal. But, once heard, never forgotten. In the words of Irwin Chusid - who first coined the term - Outsider Music is "crackpot and visionary music, where all trails lead essentially to one place: over the edge".

Following a critically acclaimed night at Bold Tendencies, Peckham, in summer 2012, the Outsider Music Collective come to Cafe OTO to present another programme of outsider classics from Britain and America. This will include celebrated player piano works by Conlon Nancarrow, a selection of James Tenney's rarely performed Postal Pieces, solo gems from experimentalists Cornelius Cardew, Howard Skempton and Michael Parsons, a generous portion of vocal and ensemble work by blind street musician Moondog (in brand new arrangements) and new work by the collective.

"Exquisitely programmed" - The Independent on Sunday on Outsider Music Night, Bold Tendencies, 2012

The Outsider Music Collective are made up of the London-based musicians Greta Eacott, Rudi Schmidt, Emilio Reyes, Kareem Dayes, Jonathan Willoughby, Claire Stachniewska, Rose Stachniewska, Igor Toronyi-Lalic and Dominic Murcott.
