Event information

Now in its fifth year, the WeGotTickets Musical Comedy Awards has grown in stature to become an annual fixture in the comedy calendar and the place to see the UK's finest up and coming musical comedians alongside some of the best established acts of the genre on the circuit.

Over the years the MCA has provided a launch pad to superstar acts like Frisky and Mannish (2009 Finalists), Abandoman (2010 winners) and Jay Foreman (Best Newcomer 2009 and now touring with Dave Gorman) and created a thriving independent platform to celebrate the artform that is musical comedy. The competition has also played host to stars of the genre such as David O' Doherty, Mitch Benn, Bo Burnham, Pippa Evans, Isy Suttie and many more.

The Final of the 2013 WeGotTickets MCA will see six finalists who have progressed through a series of heats in London battle it out at the Bloomsbury Theatre on April 5th to win the musical comedy crown of this prestigious competition.

We have a fantastic group of judges confirmed for the Final next Friday:

Nica Burns - well known theatre producer and owner of 6 West End theatres, Nica is also the veteran Director of the Foster's Edinburgh Comedy Awards.

Bruce Dessau - comedy critic for Evening Standard and editor of website http://www.beyondthejoke.co.uk

Karen Rosie - Former BBC Comedy and Entertainment Producer and now consultant producer for Funny Women - http://www.funnywomen.com

Mark Boosey - Editor of the British Comedy Guide - www.comedy.co.uk

Ben Williams - Comedy Editor of Time Out - www.timeout.com/london/comedy

Jon Grant - Head of Comedy at Red 24 Management - www.red24management.com

MCA Finalists competing:

Lucy Cox
Perhaps what makes Lucy Cox so special, is that she's so ordinary. Regaling her audience with stories about ex boyfriends and telling tales about trips on London Transport, she's your average city singleton.

Steve Seller
According to Steven's profile he wears 8 bit jumpers whilst serenading audiences with 'bitterness and crowd pleasing awesomeness' Londonist 2012. We were sold on the jumpers alone.

Hill & Weedon
Part-time spider breeders part-time musical comedy duo Hills and Weedon have been tap-dancing, bell-ringing and salmon-stomping their way around the ol' comedy swimming hole for a year now and reaching the final of the Laughing Horse New Act of the Year 2012 for their efforts.

I am, I am
Comedy double act I am, I am only formed in 2012, but with a Cambridge Footlight's background they are certainly ones to watch.

Tina Tea Lady
Rollin' her tea trolley from the cafeteria to the stage, this old lady of shame private dances for your pleasure (with her famous steam machine), she break-dances, she bakes a 'Goldenpie' and just when you think it can't get any better: she serves it up with a hot pot of 'Simply The Best' tea in town!.

Jonny & the Baptists
Satirical and sexy three-piece comedy band 'Jonny & The Baptists' (Jonny Donahoe, Paddy Gervers - guitar and Amy Butterworth - violin) present a riotous selection of songs covering everything from library closures and Quentin Blake to the decline of the British pub.

Headlining the 2013 Final are two incredible acts:

The fantastic Isy Suttie

Isy is a long-time musical comedian whose leftfield songs, stand-up and characters enchant audiences all around. Also an actor and writer, she is known to some as Dobby from Peep Show (Channel 4) and has recently completed filming a new regular character in the last ever series of Shameless, to be broadcast 2013. Twice nominated for a British Comedy Award, she has completed three solo sell-out runs at Edinburgh Festival, toured as far as Australia and Montreal and is currently working on her four part solo BBC Radio 4 series to be broadcast in 2013.
"Quirkily endearing" The Scotsman

A voice you want to swim in" The Independent

And the amazing Brett Domino Trio

The Brett Domino Trio (aka. Brett Domino and Steven Peavis) are Yorkshire's greatest internet-based, all-keyboard duo. They've appeared on (and written songs for) all sorts of things like Blue Peter, Young Apprentice, Britain's Got Talent, I'm A Celebrity and the Chris Moyles Show - but are probably best known for their deadpan covers and medleys of pop songs on YouTube, where they've garnered over 14 million views.

The evening will be hosted by 2010 MCA Runners Up, the brilliant Horse & Louis.

"Wryly funny songs and quirky lines...a smartness to the writing and a downplayed elegance to their performance. Watch them grow." Steve Bennett, Chortle

There will also be performances from:

MCA Best Newcomer - Jenny Bede

Despite having clocked up over 2 million views with her Youtube channel and hilarious parodies of celebrities, Jenny had not tested her comedy on a live audience before this year's MCA. Her first live venture has been hugely successful and she reached the Semi-Finals of this year's competition. Check out her Youtube channel here.

Ursula Burns: the winner of the 2012 Irish Musical Comedy Awards

Ursula Burns, Belfast born singer songwriter grew up in a musical family and promptly ran away to join the circus in a vain attempt to escape the fate which awaited her - living as a musician in Northern Ireland. Ursula has worked with many Irish and International artists, from Jackson Browne, Beth Orton, Billy Bragg, Duke Special, Laim O Maonlai, Keiran Kennedy, the Blue Nile, Eimer Quinn and many more, she has performed everywhere from burning fire escapes to the Royal Albert Hall...Mind you, you'd probably have to buy her a drink to find out the fire escape story. She accidently fell into comedy last year when she started her Youtube channel and has since found

Don't miss this celebration of the UK's best musical comedy acts!
