Event information

Montreal, Sackville, Toronto: the three Canadian cities that have served as home for JULIE DOIRON while her latest release, So Many Days, has been patiently composed over the past three years. In between moves, Doiron toured non-stop in support of 2009’s I Can Wonder What You Did With Your Day, but also divided her time playing in Gord Downie’s backing band The Country of Miracles and in the collaborative country project Daniel, Fred & Julie. Her thirteenth solo outing, So Many Days documents a life always on the move – with pins dropped across eastern Canada as home bases in between a frantic touring schedule, the energy of a life in constant transition evident in the urgent but poignant songwriting.

THE ELWINS are a Canadian indie rock band from Newmarket, Ontario, consisting of singer and guitarist Matthew Sweeney, drummer Travis Stokl, guitarist/keyboardist Feurd and bassist Frankie Figliomeni.

They have garnered an impressive pile of attention and praise considering their relative youth. From performing alongside acts like Tokyo Police Club, Arkells, The Sadies, Brendan Canning and Walk Off The Earth or at festivals including SXSW, CMW, POP Montreal, and the Halifax Pop Explosion to being heralded an “act to watch” by tastemakers like Exclaim!, CBC Radio 3, and Torontoist.com, The Elwins have rapidly risen the rungs of the Canadian independent music scene – and all without a full-length offering to their name; however, that’s set to change with the release of their highly-anticipated long-player And I Thank You.

At 23, EAMON MCGRATH has a list of accomplishments under his belt that would echo that of a writer twice his age: 250+ songs written and recorded, album of the year credits, multiple tours through the UK, Canada and Europe, and stints playing in the backing bands for both the legendary Daniel Johnston and Julie Doiron.

McGrath’s style is constantly changing and his shows range from sweaty, bombastic, punk and noisy garage-rock inspired barnburners, to quiet, intimate country best fit for a Western saloon. In the span of a single concert, and sometimes in the span of a song, heart-wrenching confessional lyrics pave the highway towards string-shredding guitar solos and an adolescent howl like no other.
