Event information

François Bourassa, composer and pianist, leads one of Canada’s most active recording and touring jazz ensembles. Being an international example for Canada’s contemporary jazz scene, the Francois Bourassa Quartet has received several prestigious Canadian prizes including the Juno, Felix and Opus awards and the Oscar Peterson Award at the Montreal International Jazz Festival.

On their 8th album, Idiosyncrasie (Effendi), the musicians explore the connection of contemporary jazz and 20th century music inspired by the harmonic concepts of composers such as Berg, Schoenberg and Webern. Here Bourassa and crew have found “...new levels of mystery, whimsy and passion, with more angles and space in its sound and an ever-deepening telepathy among its members.” Bob Blumenthal, April 2011

'Killer, passionate playing from everybody' Exclaim Magazine, Canada

'A passionate musical architecture, including beautiful progressions, amazing rhythm changes... a pianist and composer totally inhabited by his music… a remarkable album that surprises from beginning to the end, in every way' JazzMan, France
