Steve Homes Flamenco Trio + no.w.here workshop films
Presented by: Cafe OTO0 | LONDON: Cafe Oto |
---|---|
P | Thursday 14th November, 2013 |
N | 7:30pm |
For this special occasion the instigator, agitator, poet and musician Hugh Metcalfe comes to Oto with invited pack of musicians to share his multiple visions and sound gatherings.
During the past 30 ODD years Hugh has also been shooting films on Super 8, documenting every aspect of his life from birth to death and everything in between. His resultant huge body of film work (two week’s worth of film and counting) veers between hysterical catharsis, shocking provocation, mutant home movie, psycho geographical freefall and achingly beautiful, quasi-structural cine poem. Tonight's proceedings will be centred around these films and their affinity with music and improvisation.
The night also features live performances from:
Bicycle Clip Sex – Classics from this filmik Metcalfe outfit with special guest Veryan Weston (who has worked with many of Hugh's peers incl Phil Minton and Lol Coxhill) playing piano, core member and fellow experimental film maker James Holcombe (gadgets/toys) and Hugh Metcalfe on guitar/violin/vocals, accompanied by double film projections
Arouse Allee is Tony Barber, Hugh Metcalfe and Penny Rimbaud Metcalfe Duo – Crass co-founder and artist/activist/general subvert Penny Rimbaud shares certain similar approaches to art and living as Hugh, and tonight they play side by side with Tony Barber (guitar player from The Buzzocks) in a 3 way with a overlapping 2 reeler film featuring footage of the River Deben, Kirton Creek, Berlin trams and graveyards..
Matt Scott and Amanda Drummond – Matt (accordion) and Amanda (viola) will pull off a new score to the recently shot Super 8 films made at the Hugh Metcalfe no.w.here workshops (see details below).
Steve Homes – a longstanding friend of Hugh, stepping in with his trio to bring Flamenco into the proceedings...the link being free expression and a technique like no other.
With Hugh things happen by will, by magic and by chance, he is the being behind an array of bands and get-ups such as Fuck Off Batman, The Small Faeces, and The Cross Dressed Quartet, as well as the Klinker Soundz label. He is also the heroic promoter and founder of the legendary underground and over-looked Klinker Club, a space for mavericks operating across performance, poetry and the moving image.
On the 8th and 9th November Hugh Metcalfe will be in residence at no.w.here, leading a 2 day workshop in Super 8 film making techniques. The films produced will shown at this Oto show. Address: First Floor, 316 – 318 Bethnal Green Road, London E2 0AG. Details: www.no-w-here.org.uk
