The Chicago Project
Matana Roberts is a dynamic saxophonist, composer and improviser from Chicago, who strives to express in her music African-American roots and spiritual traditions, taking autobiographical and folkloric material as inspiration. Featuring Robert Mitchell (piano), Chris Vatalaro (drums) and Tom Mason (bass). The Chicago Project is an homage to Matana’s home town and is due for release in February on Barry Adamson’s Central Control label. ‘...a fearless and charismatic saxophonist who can reconcile all sorts of saxophone languages’ (NY Times).
