We are thrilled to present an EP launch show by Manchester's Rachel Hillary. The show, which will feature an all-star supporting line-up, takes place on Friday 28th February at new Northern Quarter venue, The Whiskey Jar.

New EP 'The Singing of Birds' will be the first music available by Rachel Hillary on CD and is set for release on Monday 24th February 2014.

Describing her music as 'poetry set to song', Rachel Hillary has much in common with other nu-folk artists from Manchester, including Literature Thieves and Raven and the Lyon and sees her live performance surrounded by any combination of of ukeleles, mandolins, djembe drums and banjos. She relies on spontaneity as a source of inspiration, much like the Beat poets; all kinds of great things can happen by accident. Fans of Feist, Birdy, Melanie Safka and Bob Dylan will find Rachel Hillary a complimentary addition to their (already impeccable) music catalogue.

Little Sparrow

As captivating to watch as she is to listen to, Little Sparrow's beautifully emotive use of expression mirrors the sincerity of her delivery, making her someone not to be missed. Her delicately crafted folk songs are created with a combination of flawless vocals, strings, guitars, percussion and tender harmonies.

Singer-songwriter Katie Ware adopted the name Little Sparrow about three years ago as she felt it characteristic of the sound she was beginning to create and the direction in which she wished to travel. Drawing upon influences as diverse as Kate Bush, All About Eve and PJ Harvey she creates songs that are filled with a blend of styles, woven into the colourful tapestry of her music, often with a mysterious fairy tale quality. Listeners are taken on a journey that touches upon every emotion, from heart-breaking sadness to uplifting joy.

2013 was a significant year for Little Sparrow, as she gathered new admirers through acclaimed live appearances. The highly-anticipated debut album is released in May 2014 and the year promises to be her most exciting to date.

The Bear Around Your Neck

The bear around your neck is Nathaniel Scott, a Manchester based singer songwriter. His songs are lyrically potent and melodically conscious, with words sitting on a fuzzy arrangement of finger picking through an overdriven amplifier. Taking inspiration from folk, rock and psychedelic music, this influence reveals a darker, grungier folk sound, lifted by spacey, pop aware melody.
