On 6th April, Ghouls’ Night Out presents an evening of comedy, film, live music and fascinating talks; all on the subject of nightmares, phobias, and dark dreams…

The nutters from Ghouls’ Night Out are at it again, with another unique night out to round off your weekend. This month's nightmare special is a cracker, delving as it does into the dark recesses of the human mind and unearthing those troubling images, dreams and obsessions that come from deep within us all.

In modern times dreams are seen as giving insight into our subconscious mind, and as important to the processing of long-term memory. But there is a troubling flip side to this mundane function – when our unconscious mind seems to turn against us, or when we seem to be receiving images from somewhere other than ourselves.

In the past, many fearful behaviours and phobias were attributed to superstitious beliefs; medieval times in particular were a period of intense interest in dream lore or oneiromancy (a form of divination based upon dreams).

Dark dreams and psychological terrors were often attributed to demonic influence. The nightmare was said to be brought by a black horse or mare, but the word also refers to a night "mara," or demon. The mara, is also associated with the medieval belief that night terrors are caused by a goblin or incubus pressing on the chest of the sleeper.

Join occult comedian Andrew O’Neill as he hosts this nightmare inducing evening with:

• Wil Hodgson excerpts "Leave The Landing Light On"
• Mary Beth Morossa's twisted tales
• Dott Cotton clown extraordinaire
• Live Dream Interpretation from someone who has no idea what they're doing.
• Vince Ripper and the Rodent Show: Horror band with Ratfink formerly of Alien Sex Fiend
• Short films and more...

More details:

Vince Ripper and the Rodent Show brings you a mash up of 50/60's classic B-Movie Horror clips and sonic performances of classic Cramps and Alien Sex Fiend tracks, worked up with Vince Ripper and the Rodents show’s own unique take on them.

Wil Hodgson is a Perrier-award winning stand-up comedian, former professional wrestler, misfit and nostalgist. He performs an excerpt of his acclaimed comedy show about childhood fears "Leave The Landing Light On".

Mary Beth Morossa, a macabre and enigmatic artiste, has stepped out from the pages of a long forgotten storybook, brushed the dust from her corset and is ready to entertain. This Mistress of the Macabre will be telling twisted tales that will warm your heart... before shattering it into smithereens.’

Dott Cotton, an accomplished physical performer and 'one of London's top clowns' Dott has charmed audiences far and wide with her classic vaudeville style and expressive movement. She brings to you two of her more rare and darker acts for this Ghouls' Night Out performance.

Short films:

• Director/animator Samuel Blain's award-winning short In Dreams is based on an elegantly simple concept: Blain filmed a series of interviews in which the subjects discuss their recurring bad dreams, and then employed 3D animation to morph the interviewees into literal interpretations of what scares them.

• Short film The Sandman by Paul Berry that was made in 1992 and nominated for The Academy Award for "Best Animated Short Film". It's based on a short short by E.T.A. Hoffman and is a fantastic piece of stop motion animation.

Your Presence Is Requested. Fancy dress encouraged.
Fancy dress inspiration: Pyjamas, boogeyman, Sandman, incubus/succubus, etc.
