An intimate charity gig for Ruskin Mill Trust. Featuring solo performances from Nancy Kerr, Fay Hield and Rosie Hood.
Ruskin Mill Trust is a charitable organisation which operates a national network of quality services including education, training and care for people with complex learning difficulties from 7 years old to mature adults.
Well known for her work with husband James Fagan, this is a rare opportunity to see singer-violinist Nancy Kerr solo. Nancy's emergence as a writer of rare style has drawn comparisons to William Blake in her reawakening of a radical folk mythology as a backdrop for contemporary narratives about love and conflict, migration, hardship and jubilation, and the tensions between rural and urban life.
Nominated for Folk Singer of the Year at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards 2014, Fay Hield is one of the country's most respected folk singers. She has been described as "a singer who seems to have been born knowing how to carry a tune but with the rarer gift of knowing how to go straight to the heart of a song." Usually seen with The Hurricane Party, or the Full English band, this is a rare opportunity to see Fay solo.
Rosie is a well-respected traditional singer, with a strong interest in the music of her native Wiltshire. In 2012, she won both the Fred Jordan Memorial Award and the Shrewsbury Folk Festival open mic, and is becoming well known for her strong and pure voice. She will be accompanied on some songs by Ollie King, a rising melodeon star.
Tickets are £9, and includes cake and tea/coffee. Doors at 7:30pm, for an 8:00pm start.
