CZECH JAZZ NIGHT – ROBERT BALZAR TRIO - Following their successful autumn concert with Dan Barta, the Robert Balzar Trio returns to the Spice of Life to celebrate their new CD Discover ‘DISCOVER WHO WE ARE’ mixed at the prestigious Sear Sound by three-time Grammy Award winning engineer James Farber. Featuring bassist ROBERT BALZAR, USA based pianist JIRI LEVICEK and drummer JIRI SLAVICEK, the trio will present an eclectic mix of songs, originals by Robert Balzar and Jiri Levicek, and popular covers arrangements from their new CD. Robert Balzar is a leading Czech bassist who has played with Joe Newman, Benny Bailey, Tony Scott, Benny Golson, Wynton Marsalis and John Abercrombie amongst others. In the Czech Republic he has collaborated mainly with the legendary Czech chanson singer Hana Hegerova and with Dan Barta. In 1996 he formed the Robert Balzar Trio which was awarded title the Best Czech Group of the Year in 2000. His recording Travelling and Alone both became the Best Czech CD of the Year while Overnight was nominated for Czech Grammy Awards on the Sony/BMG label.
