The trio of John Edwards, Mark Sanders and John Tilbury returns to Cafe Oto, a group which exceeded all expectations when they performed here last June, their first, and so far only, encounter.

Tilbury unleashed sudden flurries of bird calls, discreet tape manipulations, and passages of dense keyboard attack; Edwards slipped seamlessly from abstract drone to full on walking bass figures; and Sanders bound the group together with a unique mixture of sustained percussive texture and incisive interventions. It wasn't a case of Tilbury suddenly switching into free jazz mode, or Edwards and Sanders moving into AMM-style experimentalism. All three maintained their own distinctive voices, their musical individuality if anything enhanced by a situation entirely free of compromise or reverence but full of mutual awareness and sustained creative energy. Their second encounter gives them the opportunity to explore the many as yet untouched areas opened up in their first performance and promises to be an utterly mesmerising event.
