Midnight Apothecary 2015 kicks off on Saturday 17 January with an ancient appley affair. Gather round the fire for Wassailing, the traditional old Twelfth Night celebration. It's a chance to warm your cockles and do some more singing, aided by some cider-based concoctions (and non-alcoholic versions for the serene and sanctimonious).
This ancient ceremony blesses the fruit trees in anticipation of the bountiful new season. For the second year, we will process to the apple tree in the lower garden with Wassail led by the Butler of the Ceremony and starring the Wassail Queen and a lot of live musicians. Bring lanterns or torches to read the songsheets. There will be delicious heartwarming cocktails from the Midnight Apothecary (cash bar) to keep the heart pumping and delicious hot food on sale from I Should Be Souvlaki. A descent into the vast underground Hobbit Hole for a short reading from Lord of the Rings is an optional part of the evening. Live music and singing....another magical winter evening in Rotherhithe.
