An evening of music and film, featuring Nat Johnson and her band with Cornerstone Brass, plus a screening of short film 'We Lived Alone: The Connie Converse Documentary' by Andrea Kannes.
Connie Converse deliberately disappeared in 1974. An unappreciated songwriter, decades ahead of her time, she was never seen again. Connie’s kitchen recordings from 1950s New York were rediscovered and released in 2009. Acclaimed singer-songwriter Nat Johnson has written new arrangements of several of Connie’s songs, alongside two original songs about Connie. Nat and her band are accompanied by an ensemble from Cornerstone Brass Band.
“We Lived Alone” is the debut documentary from Andrea Kannes, a film graduate from New York. Andrea travelled to meet Connie’s relatives and was given access to Connie’s filing cabinet to make the film, uncovering not just more music, but artwork and letters.
“More than worthy of its mysterious, talented and ultimately tragic subject.” – The Quietus
