Trio Goya brings together three musicians who are individually and collectively fascinated by the musical possibilities that come to light through performing the Classical repertoire on period instruments. With a 1795 Viennese fortepiano at the centre of their programme, they delight in exploring the rhetoric, colour, playfulness and fragility of this music. Alongside two well-known and much loved trios by Haydn and Beethoven from 1794, will be the stormy and virtuosic sonata by Beethoven for violin and piano, written in 1800. The wild card of this programme comes from Diabelli , best known as the composer of the theme which Beethoven took for his grand set of variations. Very rarely heard, his Gran Sonata for cello and piano is a romantic work which gives both instruments much scope for displaying their many characters.
