THIS IS A SEATED & STANDING SHOW
If you are not familiar with them, Stornoway is a British alternative indie folk band from the Cowley area of Oxford. It consists of singer, lyricist, and guitarist Brian Briggs; keyboard player Jon Ouin, bassist Oli Steadman and his brother Rob Steadman on drums. Their sound incorporates an ever-changing selection of stringed instruments and keyboards, supported by a typical pop backline of guitar, drums, and bass guitar. Though their latest top 20 album, 'Bonxie', was their most electronic release to date Stornoway are best known (and possibly best loved) for their compelling acoustic performances.
The band's love for wildlife, the outdoors and of course Brian's PhD in Ornithology are at the forefront of their message, underlined by their recent tour of RSPB nature reserves: The Shags and Ducks and Rock 'n' Roll Tour. Combined with Stornoway's passion for playing unplugged shows, it seems completely natural, in every sense of the word, for them to produce a study of 'Bonxie' that takes the listener back to its evolutionary beginnings. This is what major reviewers thought of the album:
"Stornoway's best work yet: big music, which deserves the largest stage." 5/5 - The Guardian
"A record to lose yourself in" 4/5 - Mojo
"Stornoway have become a band to cherish"
8/10 - Uncut
"Stornoway have worked wonders on Bonxie by recording in Spector-ish caverns that only the studio greats have maps for" 4/5 - Q
Originally from Bedfordshire but currently a resident of London, Charlie Cunningham is renowned for his percussive guitar sound, which draws heavily on the influence of two years spent living in Seville. Cunninghams songwriting is laden with delicate flourishes, intricate melodic turns and moments of stark introspection; both expansive and intimate. Over the last year Charlie has toured the UK and Europe with the likes of King Creosote, Mighty Oaks and the legendary Rodriguez - which included a performance at the Royal Albert Hall.
beautiful, yet honest song-writing with such percussive guitar playing that he truly stands out from the crowd. The Line Of Best Fit
Lush, open songwriting with an intimate edge Clash
(Charlies music) wanders into your head with charm and likeability but leaves you stunned with how it envelopes you in its warmth. The 405
