Witching Waves (London)

Witching Waves have spent the year, amongst other things, releasing their excellent, sophomore album, Crystal Café, touring the US, including playing NYC Popfest, and lining up for this summer’s Indietracks.
Their ability to combine the breathless, sugar-rush guitar assault of the likes of Joanna Gruesome and Sonic Youth, with underlying ‘sweetly fractured harmonies’ (Drowned in Sound) is reminiscent of the songwriting dynamism of much-loved bands, such as Veronica Falls, Bearsuit & The Vaselines. However, Witching Waves are very much their own beast, with their very own aggressive, contemporary strain of noise pop, and a must-see!

" right at the end of 2014 they’ve produced one of its best debut LPs. Fear of Falling Down takes its cue from garage rock, and is driven on by grubby riffs and a breathless sense of urgency... capturing the euphoria of classic Sixties pop" (8/10 Drowned in Sound).

Crumbs (Leeds)
Lo-fi noise-pop from Leeds. Another great new band having a great year, with a recent session on Marc Riley’s 6Music show, and support slots for the likes of Joanna Gruesome and Shopping. Check out their stuff on Bandcamp, including Marc Riley show-favourite ‘Chaka Can’t.’

Tough Tits (Newcastle)

Currently taking the North-East live music-scene by storm, Tough Tits are an exciting new presence on the north-east circuit, having already blown away audiences with their ungodly and compelling sound that combines synths, guitar and splenetic screams. They’ll be back from their joint UK ‘Gang of Babes’ tour with No Ditching for this one!

Baker Island (Newcastle)

Local fuzz-fuming indiepop band Baker Island finished 2015 on a high, with an appearance at Indietracks, the release of their album Bobby Hundreds, and two great singles in 'You are a Cathedral,' and 'Spanish Trails,'as well as some great support slots for the likes of Jeffrey Lewis. 2016 promises even greater things, they've already had airplay on both BBC Radio 6's Gideon Coe & Tom Ravencroft (son of Peel) shows, when the year was barely a week old, and have recently been a headliner at Evolution Emerging'
